Hounslow for Business was established in May 2005. It was the result of Hounslow Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Unit at Hounslow Local Authority agreeing to create a locally managed, locally delivered business advice service in the Borough. Hounslow for Business was then set up as a subsidiary of Hounslow Chamber of Commerce to be the business arm of the Chamber.
HfB has some 5 years experience helping Hounslow and West London residents explore and pursue self-employment options:
• HfB is the largest provider of self-employment advice in Hounslow borough
• In 5 years to December 2010, HfB supported 720 clients which led to the creation of 150 businesses and 200 jobs
• At the end of 12 months, an average of 70% of businesses that HfB helped start are still trading (the typical average is much lower at 50%)
• Amongst the businesses created are franchises, social enterprises and independent consultants and interims
• Some 60% of the business started are female owned and around 75% are BAME
(Black and minority owned enterprises)
• HfB has also worked with Hounslow JCP (Job Centre Plus) to help long term
unemployed into self-employment –creating 30 businesses over 21 months to Dec
2010
